Top 30: Announcement

The 7th generation of the video game world has been the longest game generation in history. It's time we talked about it, and the great games that came from it.

It began in America on November 21st, 2004, with the release of the Nintendo DS. Not to be outdone by Nintendo, Sony tried to find their handheld gaming success, and released the Playstation Portable. Sadly for Sony, nobody liked their handheld except for pirates. PSP definitely won't be on my list.

As it continued, generation 7 saw the release of the Xbox 360. It promised to have bigger, better, high definition graphics, and higher dedication to online play and connections. The 360 had all of that, and a big problem with overheating. Then came the Nintendo Wii. This brought about the motion control revolution, and all the crud that tried to copy it.

But this gen had one more trick up it's sleeve! Sony was back, and ready to cash in on their glorious playstation 2 user base! On November 17, 2006, Sony released the Playstation 3 for 599 US DOLLARS. With a price that high, there's no way it's making it on my list either.

From 2007 and onwards, the consoles and handhelds have waged a bloody, arduous war, competing for consumer coinage and affection. At the time, nobody could see the end coming. How did Nintendo rise to the top, when the Gamecube had failed to do so in the previous gen? What happened to Sony? The Playstation 2 was the best-selling console of all time! And who could see Microsoft's rise into gaming success with the 360? I'm not sure anybody owned the first Xbox, except for Halo fans. What a change, now that almost everyone owns an Xbox 360 (and not just for Call of Duty).

Here we are, on the cusp of the 8th generation of gaming. It's 2012, and the 7th generation is finally coming to an end, a whopping 7 years later! The 3DS is here, and so is that other handheld. (I can't remember the name...oh well.) And now the Wii U is here to bring Nintendo up to speed with the...current gen...oh dear. I'm sure it will all work out, right?

Since we're at the end of a gaming era, I thought it would be the perfect time to look back on this generation of gaming, and find my absolute favorite games! I'll be listing 5 games per entry, and we'll keep going until we get to the top 5! Enjoy the ride, everyone! I know I will. Let's get to...

JC's top 30 favorite video games of generation 7!

(By the way, if you're curious to know about the rules, why I'm “missing” certain games from this list, or how I chose what games went on this list, please check out this list's disclaimer.)
